Senior Marine Vessel Engineering Consultant

Contract: Inside IR35

Are you ready to operate at a strategic level, providing expert consulting insight across complex marine engineering systems?
We are seeking a Senior Marine Vessel Engineering Consultant to deliver high-value technical guidance across multidisciplinary projects, driving performance, compliance, and innovation for modern vessels.

This is a consulting-focused contract role, where your expertise will shape decisions, optimise systems, and influence engineering outcomes across the full vessel lifecycle.


What You'll Do

As a Senior Marine Vessel Engineering Consultant, you will:

  • Provide expert consulting advice across critical vessel systems including HVAC, Hydraulics, Electrical, and Structural disciplines
  • Lead technical assessments covering HVAC, Hydraulics, Electrical, and Structural systems performance and integration
  • Diagnose and resolve complex cross-discipline issues spanning HVAC, Hydraulics, Electrical, and Structural engineering challenges
  • Serve as a subject matter expert supporting design reviews using advanced tools including FORAN
  • Advise on upgrades, refits, and modifications, ensuring compliance and operational excellence
  • Drive improvements in efficiency, reliability, and sustainability through strategic consulting input
  • Support stakeholders during dry dock, commissioning, and in-service phases with high-level technical expertise

Your Expertise

You bring strong consulting experience across at least one of the following disciplines:

  • HVAC systems (ventilation, chilled water, air quality control)
  • Hydraulics systems (fluid power, control, actuation)
  • Electrical systems (power distribution, diagnostics, control systems)
  • Structural engineering (integrity, fatigue, modifications and repair)

Additionally:

  • Proven ability to assess and optimise HVAC, Hydraulics, Electrical, and Structural systems in operational environments
  • Strong understanding of marine regulations (SOLAS, MARPOL, Class requirements)
  • Experience advising on system upgrades, maintenance strategies, and performance analytics

What You Bring
  • Qualification in Marine, Mechanical, Electrical, or Structural Engineering (HNC/HND/Degree or equivalent)
  • Extensive hands-on and consulting experience across vessel systems, including HVAC and Hydraulics
  • Ability to operate strategically across Electrical and Structural domains
  • Experience with digital ship design tools such as FORAN
  • Desirable certifications across HVAC, Hydraulics, Electrical, or Structural specialisms
